Once my voyage to the new place is complete I will again be sharing those new and favorite designs with all of you. Life is to hectic and there is never enough time to do everything we want. By the shadow of the moonlight this owl scans the landscape for prey. The large eyes that face forward allow this bird to have binocular vision, enabling it to judge distances between objects and maneuver through crowded enviorments.

The eyes of these birds are immovably fixed in their sockets. In order for the birds to follow moving objects it must turn its head.

Because they have long flexible necks, they can turn their heads 260 degrees.

The flight feathers of these birds are serrated at their tips, which has the effect of muffling the flapping sound of their wings during flight.

Few bird of this species hunt prey in full daylight, their hearing is particularly important. Many have asymmetrical skulls, with the ear openings at different levels. The right ear is positioned high on the head, while the left ear is low.

This allows sound to reach one ear before the other, this enables owls to get a "fix" on the sound made by a prey animal. In experiments performed in totally dark rooms where eyesight is useless, owls have caught mice on a leaf littered floor with 100% accuracy.

It infuriates me when I stand in line and the person in front of me or in back of me is rattling off in another language. What's worse is when they act like they don't speak English yet are actually understanding every word that's being said. It's wrong, this is, after all, America, and our adopted language is English. Artistic Skulls

Skull the skeletal structure of the head, composed of the facial and cranial bones. The skull houses and protects the brain and most of the chief sense organs; i.e., the eyes, ears, nose, and tongue. Among humans, some 14 bones shape the face, most occurring in symmetrical pairs.

I was trying to create something that was a cross between two skulls and a heart shape with a touch of Celtic art thrown in for good measure. I think what came out is an eerie yet beautiful example of how skulls can be an artistic expression and several different genres. Pemaquid Point Lighthouse

The light at Pemaquid was originally built during the presidency of John Quincy Adams, in 1827, at a cost of $2,800. Faulty construction was blamed for the quick deterioration of the tower, which was rebuilt with double walls in 1835. The tower is only 38 ft tall, but it's placement on a rock ledge gives the light a 79 ft. focal plane. Flashing a white light every 6 seconds, Pemaquid's fourth-order fresnel is visible for 14 miles.

God May Have Mercy On Them We Will Not

God may have mercy on them, we will not. The crime was too heinous, and lose of life to forgive or forget. Remember the pain and heartache of a tragic day in America's history. On September 11, 2001, beginning at about 8:45 in the morning, a series of terrorist attacks destroyed the twin towers of the World Trade Center and severely damaged the Pentagon. The disaster is so great that in New York we have as yet, two days later, only guesses about how many thousands of people perished when the WTC towers collapsed. Commercial airliners were hijacked and flown directly into the three buildings. The first crashed into the North tower at 8:45, and about 18 minutes later the second airliner hit the South tower. At about 9:40, a third airliner crashed into the Pentagon. At about 9:58, the South tower collapsed, followed by the North tower at 10:28.

Its been seven years since the twins came crashing down, taking countless innocents in their towering fall. All in the name of someone's God, and a hatred of a way of life no one ever asked them to live.

All these people had to die because someone hated so much they felt the overwhelming need to take a violent path as a way to give voice to their evil feelings. They hoped to bring this brave nation to it's knees by senselessly taking thousands of innocent lives and changing the landscape of a city forever.

And now we have a huge gaping hole where two, not all that beautiful, but, sorely missed buildings once stood. No matter what is built on that sight the pain of that one day in history will always remain.

If one good thing was to come out of all this senseless waste of life, was a reuniting of a nation that had grown complacent and bitter. Neighbor looked upon neighbor in a better light and simple acts of kindness became commonplace once again. We were willing to come together and show how much we loved our way of life.

Once again the anniversary of this tragedy is upon us. This unfortunate day in history should never be forgotten. Lest we forget.

Wolves are large, predatory canids once common throughout North America, Europe, Africa and Asia, now living mostly in remote wilderness. There are two species of wolves in North America. The smaller species is the red wolf, Canis rufus, which has shorter, redder fur than the gray wolf. The gray wolf, Canis lupus, has thicker fur which is more gray or golden, and is larger than the red wolf. The gray wolf lives in the northeastern United States, Canada, and Europe. It makes me very angry when I drive up anywhere in my Camaro and some insensitive sexist jerk says nice car, is it your husbands? I go from happy to angry in less than thirty seconds. Why can't you guys see that there are some women out here, in this big ole world, that know more about cars than most of you shadetree mechanics?

I drive a 1971 Z-28 Camaro, that I helped, yes helped, build. It's my Baby and I'm the one who maintains her. No one, and I mean no one, touches Baby but me. She turns heads where ever we go and I'm proud to see that a vintage muscle car can do that.

Yet, I'm perplexed by the fact that we are in the twenty first century and the battle of the sexes is still in the dark ages. I'm a woman, and I am a certified car nut. Nothing wrong with that, or a woman in coveralls with greasy hands a maybe a smudge or two on her face. More people should know what goes on under the hood of their car instead of just expecting the thing to run whenever they demand it to be the work horse they thought they bought. I just don't understand why I'm frowned upon when I get upset at the assumption that such a muscled beast can be mine and mine alone.

Get over it guys, we aren't just hood ornaments, we are intelligent amazing human beings, and some of us are smarter than the average mechanic. Deal with that, or stay in your caves and keep you mouths shut.

Golden Gate Bridge from the Pacific

The Golden Gate Bridge, completed after more than four years of construction at a cost of $35 million, is a visitor attraction recognized around the world. The GGB opened to vehicular traffic on May 28, 1937 at twelve o'clock noon, ahead of schedule and under budget, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt pressed a telegraph key in the White House announcing the event.

CSI

The best TV show every conceived has to be CSI the original, not those carbon copy spin offs. Of course when I say this it's with a lot of respect for the lead actor, Billy Petersen. Whom ever is responsible for bringing this talent to the small screen should be commended for doing the otherwise inane world of TV a great service. Mr. Petersen has more talent in his little finger than the whole of the small screen acting world, but I have been a fan of his since I first saw him in Micheal Mann's "Manhunter".

There was a depth of darkness to that film that was solely captured by Mr. Petersen. While there is another version of "Red Dragon" out, this one is the one that will capture the raw edginess that was in the book. I don't think another actor could have brought across Will Graham as perfectly as Billy Petersen. He made the movie believable, and brought the character to life like he should be. But I digress.

Being a freelance photographer, it's makes me very angry to see my photographs in places that I haven't shared them, with no credit to me. In todays internet society it seems that this is a rampant frustration that too many of us who try to share our work with others deal with. It's gotten old and, I still, after all these years, fail to understand why ones hard work must be stolen and shared under the guise of false pretenses. I have taken all my work offline, but I still find those few pieces lingering on others sites credited to people who have never used a film SLR or know what a darkroom looks like. It's infuriating, and while I still fight this, I'm tired of having to. Honesty and the internet don't seem to go hand in hand.

It's not just those that want to claim ones photos as their own, but now, I have found those that are trying to sell my work as their own. This is not acceptable. It's infuriating and beyond that. I shouldn't have to fight this hard just to ply my craft to share with those that don't have the natural eye for photography. Why can't people just enjoy without being dishonest.

I still have a lot of my photographs for sale, but I'm seriously rethinking this whole nightmare. Rant over, a girl has to vent sometime after all.

In 1869, the first westbound train arrived in San Francisco, and in 1870, San Francisco had become the tenth largest city in the United States. The 1906 Earthquake and fire devastated the city. But with its characteristic spirit, the city rebuilt itself--into a grander city than even before. And it was no surprise that it would conceive and execute the impossible--the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge--one of the world's longest suspension bridges-- over icy-cold, shark infested waters. It has the highest bridge towers ever made. Civic mindedness, a tolerant spirit, and openness have continued to be the characteristic of the people of the City. After World War II, returning gay soldiers found a safe haven here. The heart of the 60's movement in the Haight-Ashbury brought talents like the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Santana, and Janis Joplin. Today, new waves of immigrants, particularly from Russia and Central America, are changing the face of the city.

Sears Tower As the Sun Sets

The construction of The Sears Tower started in 1970. It was designed by Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill and was completed and opened in 1973. Its location is on Wacker Drive in Chicago. It is 1454 feet tall and weighs 445,000,000 pounds. The Sears Tower is 110 stories high and the antennas are over 200 feet tall. It took three years to build and over 12,000 people work there.

The Sears Tower Skydeck observation deck opened on June 22, 1974 and is located on the 103rd floor of the tower. It is 1,353 feet (412 m) above ground and is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Chicago. Tourists can experience how the building sways on a windy day. They can see far over the plains of Illinois and across Lake Michigan to Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin on a clear day. It takes about 45 seconds to soar to the top in either of two special elevators.

The sunset blazed this day, but it made such a beautiful backdrop for the Chicago skyline. Alamere Falls

What more could you ask for! A waterfall dropping right into the ocean! That's what you get at Alamere Falls, and more! This is an excellent hike along the California Coast Trail starting from the Palomarin trailhead near Bolina. It is incredibly pretty with amazing ocean views and lush vegetation (especially in spring). The last half mile of the trail is along a signed spur trail (off the Coast Trail).

This is an all day hike, but it's so worth it once you get to the ocean and this beautiful waterfall. It was the first time I had ever seen a waterfall that dropped into the ocean. It's breathtaking to see and I just had to capture it so you could share in the beauty of Alamere Falls

Punch Bowl Falls

Punch Bowl Falls is quite possibly the most photographed waterfall in the entire Pacific Northwest. The falls occur where Eagle Creek cuts through a narrow channel flanked by cliffs, and shoots powerfully into a large bowl. The falls' name is a very descriptive one, as it's easy to see it's resemblance to an actual bowl you'd pour punch into. Because of this unique look, this waterfall was entirely responsible for the waterfall classification type of "punchbowl", though it's rather hard to find another waterfall that fits the characteristics so well.

It's such a beautiful site to see in person, and my sole conquest that day we hiked to the falls was to take a perfect picture of it. The day was beautiful, and lighting couldn't have been better. I only had to use a daylight filter and a beautiful memory was captured to share with everyone. Dew Kissed

In the early morning hours of a spring morning when the dew kisses the flowers, the rose is just awakening to it's first kiss of the day. The dew doesn't last long, but, it's a wonder to behold. Like a fine mist the wet taste is a splendor to behold. As the day wears on the bright colors of this dew kissed rose brighten and show the world it's beauty and glory.

Golden Gate from Fort Point

The Golden Gate Bridge, completed after more than four years of construction at a cost of $35 million, is a visitor attraction recognized around the world. The towers that support the Golden Gate Bridge's suspension cables are smaller at the top than at the base, emphasizing the tower height of 500 feet above the roadway.

The grayness of the fog frames the Golden Gate Bridge giving an sense of mystery and still highlighting the color of the bridge in stark contrast. Fort Point is a great place to photograph this beautiful engineering marvel and I was lucky enough to get this photograph at a fantastic moment. Horsetail Falls

Horsetail Falls is a spectacular sight. The snowy cascade, spilling from cliffs that form the eastward rampart of a narrowing valley, beckons from the grand granite slabs of the trail, from the clear pools of Pyramid Creek, which skitters toward and away from the trail as it ascends, even from the dusty parking area and the noisy highway at the trailhead.

Demon Hunter

The Demon Hunter does the devil's bidding, but he can be swayed by anyone who dares to take him on as a servant of darkness. Are you brave enough to let the darkness work for you, or are you smart enough to not be swayed by the evil that lurks not only in the darkness, but in the heart of the Demon Hunter.

This design was hard to get just right, but the final graphic was well worth the effort that took over a month to perfect. Once scanned into the computer I thought that shading was a better way to go instead of color. It's wonderful to see the final design on a t-shirt, or mug, but from what I've seen it has to be equally amazing on any of the other fine products it can be found on if you follow the link. I'm so stoked that I have to share this with the world, as of today I'm published. I know to most authors this is such a small thing, but to me and those who still submit with the hope of a story or poem being picked for publication, this is huge. It's only a short story, but to me this is an amazing validation on a road that is usually fraught with more bumps than smooth highway. It's so amazing to see your story with your name beside it in print. It's a small victory in a search that's not over, but the thrill is one that I will savor for a while. Celtic Knots

The "Celtic Knot" is a stylized graphical representation of knots and braids used for decoration. Most commonly attributed to the ancient Celts, the art form is also commonly found in Norse and even Egyptian artifacts and is believed to have reached it's zenith in the early centuries A.D. when they were used in the ornamentation of Christian monuments and manuscripts like the 8th century Book of Kells.

The Celts themselves left very little in the way of records, and most symbols are interpreted by archaeologists and other scholars who study the symbols in context. Some ancient Celtic symbols have changed in meaning over time, having been influenced by the introduction of Christianity and the influence of other cultures.

Celtic Knots

The Celtic Knot is one of the best known motifs in Celtic jewelry and art. The delicate twists and turns are found in ancient stone art and tattoos, in illuminated manuscripts- in fact, just about anywhere the Celtic people have travelled. Owls

Owls have large forward-facing eyes and ears, a hawk-like beak, and usually a conspicuous circle of feathers around each eye called a facial disc. Although owls have binocular vision, their large eyes are fixed in their sockets, as with other birds, and they must turn their entire head to change views.

Owls are far-sighted, and are unable to clearly see anything within a few inches of their eyes. Their far vision, particularly in low light, is exceptionally good, and they can turn their head 135 degrees in either direction; they can thus look behind their own shoulders. It is correct, however, that some can turn the head so far as to face completely backwards.

Snowy Owl

At the extreme northern margins of the arctic tundra lives the Snowy Owl, the northernmost, heaviest, and most distinctively marked owl of North America. Largely diurnal, it spends much of its time perched still and silent on prominent lookouts, waiting to make forays for prey.

In some years, some North American Snowy Owls remain on their breeding grounds year-round, while others migrate in winter to southern Canada and the northern half of the contiguous United States. In the northern plains, New York, and New England, Snowy Owls occur regularly in winter. Elsewhere, such as in the Pacific Northwest, the Midwest, and eastern Canada, Snowy Owls are irruptive, appearing only in some winters but not in others.

Young male Snowy Owls are barred with dark brown and get whiter as they get older. Females keep some dark markings throughout their lives. Young males tend to have a white bib, a white back of the head, and fewer rows of bars on the tail than females. Although the darkest males and the palest females are nearly alike in color, the whitest birds are always males and the most heavily barred ones are always females. Some old males can be nearly pure white.

Dragons in History

Chinese mythology is rich with the artwork, tales and depictions of dragons. Dragons are thought to give life, hence their breath is called "sheng chi" or divine energy. They are essentially benevolent and associated with abundance and blessing. They were helpful, wise and generous with their gifts when people encountered them.

Chinese dragons are physically concise. Of the 117 scales, 81 are of the yang essence [positive] while 36 are of the yin essence [negative]. This malevolent influence [which is thankfully the smaller ratio] accounts for their destructive and aggressive side. Just as water destroys, so can the dragons in the form of floods or droughts, tidal waves and storms. Legend has it that they caused the droughts by eclipsing the sun. Some of the worst floods were believed to have been the result of a mortal upsetting a dragon.

Publishing Love Poetry

In a long and weary search for a publisher for the poetry that everyone said should be published, every big publishing house gave the same response "We no longer publish love poetry". Haven't you heard love is dead, was the slap in the face no one wants to hear once they've decided to look to be published. Feeling defeated before actually getting started the search had continued for an alternative way to get this much anticipated poetry book published. Exhausting all regular sources an unlikey source appeared. Self-publishing was an interesting alternative to the usual suspects, and a print on demand was even more out there.

Soul searching then became a necessary thing, plus picking the brain of a lawyer and trusted friend, the decision was made, and now I have to say that it's not an experience, I would recommend, to anyone who would even expect for soaring sales, especially from those whose encouragement was what made the decison to see these poems in bound print a finality.

Disappointment is a reality and regret is being surpassed by anger and feelings of betrayal. Guess when one gets the guts to do what others haven't mustered the courage for, as of yet, those who encouraged show their true colors and it's all adding to the learning experience. While the feeling of being in control from the artwork on the outside of the book, to the order of the poetry, fonts, and positioning on the pages, it saddens me to find those who were most in favor of this endeavor are not jumping on the bandwagon to help towards a successful self-publishing experience.

And now on I go to promote, promote, promote. Life does go on.

Twenty-five hundred years ago, two thousand years before Shakespeare, Western theatre was born in Athens, Greece. Between 600 and 200 BC, the ancient Athenians created a theatre.The two masks are the symbols for THEATRE. They are the comedy and tragedy masks that were worn in ancient Greece during the golden age, around 500 - 300 BC.

The golden age was the first time that plays were written and performed. Plays were written in honor of the god Dionysus, the god of fertility and procreation, and were either Comedies or Tragedies.

All the actors were male, and they all played multiple roles, so a mask was used to show the change in character or mood. Masks challenged the actors to portray their character's feelings in more subtle ways, with voice and body language, since they couldn't use facial expressions. The two masks are now used as the symbol for theater, in memory of its origins in ancient Greece.

In Eastern culture, the dragon represents the essential forces of Nature. While Emperors consulted them as revered advisors, they did not always follow that advice, and consequently the dragons� anger would either produce storms and floods though the clouds they breathed out, or such things as water shortages, when they beat their tails about, and emptied lakes and rivers. A dragon�s celestial breath, known as sheng chi, bestows warmth from the sun, wind from the ocean, soil from the Earth, and water from rain.

In Western culture, the dragon developed a very different persona, which many aficionados claim is misinterpretation of the tales in which their stories are told. Where Eastern dragons are perceived as good and benevolent, western dragons are all fire, and flinging their tails about, and biting heads off. In reality, if you read a broad range of literature from both hemispheres, you�ll find that eastern dragons sometimes took a notion to be bad characters, and in the west, there are dragons whose whole existence was to serve and protect a kingdom, or prince, and they display the most sterling qualities of loyalty and sacrifice.

Part of the reason it is so hard to define what constitutes a dragon, is the wide variance in their physical images. In Eastern culture the dragon started out as an elongated, almost serpentine creature, usually, but not always showing four shortened legs, and a spaded tail. They were covered in scales, had a crest on the head, and were brightly colored in many hues. In Western culture, the traditional image of the dragon is of an almost reptilian animal, usually green, with wings like a bat, and breathing fire. Some also have feathers. Which is likely what leads to confusing dragons with gryphons (leonine in the hind quarters and raptor-like in the front quarters) and the phoenix (a mythical bird).
